TGT Legal is committed to contributing its skills and expertise to benefit the community. As part of its pro bono programme
, TGT Legal acted for the Neurological Foundation of New Zealand
in relation to a challenge to a will under which the Foundation was the primary beneficiary.
The Neurological Foundation is an independent body and charitable trust that raises funds to ensure New Zealand’s top neuroscientists can continue leading-edge research into neurological disorders as well as educating the public about these conditions. This is done with the goal of alleviating suffering from diseases and disorders of the brain and nervous system.
The challenge to the Neurological Foundation’s bequest went to a three day hearing in the High Court at Wellington. TGT Legal’s dispute resolution team made a significant pro bono contribution to the Foundation to reduce the impact of legal costs on the bequest. The High Court's judgment (Blumenthal v Stewart NZHC 3187
) was issued on 15th December 2015. The party claiming against the estate failed in his claims - a good result for the Neurological Foundation.*
*On 2 February 2016, the party claiming against the estate filed a notice of appeal.
